News2008 Gymnasts Named Academic All-State Greetings LP Gymnastics Family and Supporters.
I wanted to share with you some terrific news that we have recently received from the Illinois High School Association.
The Lake Park Boys Gymnastics squad was named as an All-State Academic Team for the 2008 season. This designation is the most prestigious award the IHSA offers. To qualify, a gymnastics team must have a minimum of 15 athletes and have a collective team GPA higher than a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Our boys more than met that requirement as we had FIVE athletes that earned a perfect 4.0! Of the five athletes, three were seniors who graduated having earned a perfect 4.0 throughout their entire high school career. I am so proud of our varsity team, because they truly personify the term "student-athlete", only in their case the more appropriate phrase should be "SCHOLAR-athletes."
Secondly, I am happy to accept the IHSA's 2008 State Gymnastics Coach of the Year Award on behalf of our entire coaching staff and program. Our staff has worked tirelessly the past four seasons to help put the team into a position to succeed, and that is exactly what they did en route to conference and sectional titles, while finishing 5th at the IHSA State Meet.
I would like to thank our frosh/soph coaches Dan Lobraco and Lee Wood, for all of their collective efforts throughout the season. I would especially like to thank Rick Orna and Greg Anderson for graciously volunteering their time and talents. They have been the bedrock of Lake Park Gymnastics for decades, I am grateful for the opportunity to build upon the legacy they created.
I would also like to acknowledge the love and support of our gymnastics parents, who have been instrumental in all of the achievements their sons have accumulated in and out of the gym. Our gymnasts are a direct reflection of their parents, without question.
Lastly, each and every member of our sixteen-man varsity roster deserves all of the credit for the accolades bestowed upon them as a team, and as individuals, this past season. In the end, not all the coaching and preparation in the world can fully match what happens in the ninety seconds it takes to perform a routine. The boys alone performed those routines and were amongst the best in state and the best Lake Park has ever seen.
It is my distinct privilege to accept these awards on behalf of Lake Park and its boys gymnastics team. Thank you again for all of your support!
